Chiropractic is great for rehabilitating sport injuries. Many people don’t realize we treat other things besides neck and back pain. In our office after we make sure no fracture is present we then start the first phase of rehabilitative care.
Rehabilitating sport injuries with chiropractic involves various phases. The first phase is the acute care and involves relieving pain, reducing swelling and decreasing any other symptoms that may occur. This stage usually last for a period of several days or more depending on the severity of the injury and whether or not it is repetitive. We utilize ice, gentle mobilization and manipulation and various machines such as cold laser, muscle stimulation or ultrasound. For more information on the type of therapies we have in this office go to our website at www.southingtonchiropractor.com.
The second phase of rehabilitating sports injury in a chiropractor’s office is remobilization. This occurs in three stages including passive motion, active motion and restoration of functional strength and endurance capacity. The timing here is critical because if we move from one stage to another to quickly you risk re-injury but if you go too slow, scar tissue and adhesions can form. It is tricky and is based on the individual patient. If you have a sport injury either new or old, call our office to see if we can help you. Call 860-620-9523.
